Before I go into detail, a band member of The Bad Boys http://chairshotrecords.blogspot.com/2009/03/bad-boys-love-black-olives-45rpm.html left a comment on one of my blogs! Here is what he had to say. Thank you for leaving a comment and leaving some information about your band!!:
"Charlie Daniels was the energetic force, the bassist and producer of both sides of this recording. The drummer was Danny Conway, the vocalist and keyboardist was Gary St.Clair and I, Demetri Callas, was the guitarist. The songs were recorded at Sambo studio, Louisville, KY, in '66. The instruments played (for those who may care to know) were a 1951 Fender Precision bass, a Lowery organ, and a 1953 Fender Esquire guitar plugged into a Fender Bassman 'Piggy-back' amp head. Charlie connected a cable from the speaker output on the Fender amp directly to a channel in the studio mixing console. No fuzztone devices were used; the guitar distortion/overload was a natural occurrence.
The bass solo on 'Black Olives' may be the only bass solo ever recorded by Charlie Daniels. The 'Olives' recording was to be the 'B' side of the disc. It took approximately ten minutes to record it. Charlie said 'play a riff......any riff', and we did.
Danny Conway took his life in '87. Gary St.Clair is still active in the music biz....produced a smash hit in the '90s ('I Swear' /All4One)....has his own indie label (Dynatone Records) and a first class recording studio in CA. Charlie Daniels attained the stardom he so rightfully deserved after having devoted many years of his life helping others advance their musical careers.
I, Demetri Callas, still play occasionally and communicate with Gary and Charlie whenever possible.
The Bad Boys changed their name to Flavor and recorded for Columbia Records in the '60s. Gary St.Clair recorded a remarkable, self-titled solo album in 1970 (ABC Paramount label). The album features Gary's inimitable vocal ability.
In 2007, Sony Records procured the master recordings created by Flavor for Columbia Records (1968-1969). Sony issued a CD entitled 'Flavor'...Sally Had A Party'. The CD is available on eBay and from various other sources. It, too, features Gary St.Clair's soulful singing."

Pictures Can Tell were a 4 piece band from...well I don't know. I had gotten this album (more of an EP) from a huge indie lot of CD's I purchased off of ebay a few years back. Lots of tracking this band down has come up fruitless. Unfortunately I don't have any other information about this band.

5 tracks if indie music that is good for a rainy day. Some of the songs drag on much more than what I like (some almost 7 minutes), but it makes a good driving CD.

V/A - What'd You Expect For Free? Volume 8 CD

Skratch Magazine has been around for ages. 12 years to be exact. The unfortunate part about that is, not many people have heard of this wonderful punk mag. They would also issue quarterly CD compilations and give them out for free. Hence the name of the comp! I also believe they are working on their 50th CD comp.

Although the magazine has gone mostly digital (along with the comps), its still a good read. I am also looking for all of their CD comps for my collection. This is the only one I have!

About 7 years ago, there was a venue in Hanover PA called The Go Point. Which was in the basement of the Moose. I saw The Commercials there and they were selling this CD for $3. Yea I didn't think they should have been selling it, but I'm a comp guy. And for 39 bands that's still pretty cheap. I tried peeling the price sticker off and well what you see is what you get. 39 songs of hardcore, ska, emo and pop punk. A lot of unsigned bands I would love to hear more about. If you have any info on the bands from this comp (except goldfinger, link 80, luckie strike, the commercials) let me know.

Does anybody still read this blog anymore? I'd like to think so. I've been way slacking on new updates. I'm also going to create a separate blog for my non-punk 45 finds.

I bought this a while back at Double Decker Records in Allentown for I think $1. I was surprised to see an early BTS 7" in the dollar bin. So I had to pick it up. If you are into punk rock, or pop punk I'm sure you know who these guys are. I think the a-side is a great catchy pop punk tune. B-side is your typical BTS. Which isnt a bad thing. Here is both sides to this release.

Here is another little ditty of the non punk persuasion from my personal collection. I bought this in a box lot at an auction a few years ago. I wasn't that much of a fan of the a-side track on the first listen. The b-side track is what drew me into this single. Its catchy and very upbeat for a song from 1962. The A-side reached #8 on the US billboard charts. Here is some more info from wikipedia...

Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans was an early 1960s vocal group produced by Phil Spector, and was initially conceived as a vehicle for the lead vocals of Bobby Sheen, who took the stage name Bob B. Soxx. The Blue Jeans were backing vocalists, Darlene Love and Fanita James, both of whom were also members of the then girl group The Blossoms.^[1]

Despite Sheen's status as group leader, by the time the trio entered the recording studio, Spector was often using Love as the group's primary vocalist. Sheen sang lead on the group's first hit, 1962's "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" (originally from the 1946 Disney movie, Song of the South). Love, meanwhile, handled the lead vocals on Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans' two follow-up singles, 1963's "Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?" and "Not Too Young to Get Married".^[1]

Sheen and Love shared vocal duties on the only album the group ever recorded, Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah (1963).

Sheen can be heard as lead vocalist on the group's final recordings, "The Bells of St. Mary's" and "Here Comes Santa Claus," two tracks on the Spector-produced album, A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector (1963), on which Love also appears as a solo artist. On the cover of this album, a group portrait shows Sheen with two Blue Jeans vocalists, who have been identified as James and yet another Blossoms member, Gloria Jones.

After 1963 the group was dropped by Philles Records and effectively ceased to exist. Sheen went back to using his real name, recorded some tracks for Capitol Records in the mid 1960s, and later joined a later touring version of The Coasters.^[1] Sheen had previously been a member of The Robins, joining in 1957. Love recorded a few solo hits, but, more memorably, was the lead vocalist on at least two hit records by The Crystals. It is also established that Sheen, Love and Wright were the voices on The Crystals' hit, "He's a Rebel".

I actually have been trying to update this more. For some reason blogger hasnt been working for me lately. So here is another long over due entry!

I bought this off ebay in a huge ass 7" pop punk lot (you have already seen some of what I bought). This is a pretty good mix of pop punk, and punk rock. I would say this is a rootbeer style color vinyl, but others have called it clear brown.

660 were pressed and the b-side labels were hand numbered. Mine is # 603/660. They released a few other things, and appeared on a ton of pop punk comps.

2 weeks without an update? Wow I'm getting slow! For those of you who are looking for the Green Day - Dookie demos, I have tried uploading them multiple times but it doesnt seem to work. If anybody wants them, send over your email and I will send you the ZIP file

I am a comp collector. I love punk comps. And this is one of the reasons why. I grabbed this off of ebay for I believe 49 cents plus $2 shipping. So it was pretty cheap. Bakamono is a music store / anime store in Denver, CO. They released this comp and pressed1000 copies. It was given away for free. And I had to pay for it.

Its a great mixture of pop punk, hardcore and some ska. So check it out!!
