I picked this up for $1 at Double Decker Records earlier in October during my trip to the Allentown records fair. I had heard 22 jacks before but I have never heard Mess before.

22 Jacks was a sort of super group. With members of The Breeders, Face To Face, Wax, The Adolescents, and Royal Crown Revue. Sounds like a damn fin line-up if you ask me

And Mess is actually Darlington, performing as Mess.

The 22 Jacks song is great, as always. The Mess side is good, but I'm not really a big fan of the song Five-O. Still a nice pop punk/power pop release.

I did some research and it seems this was only pressed on clear green vinyl. Not sure how many were pressed.

Now it's time for a release for all the screamo fans out there. And not that wimpy whinny shit that plagues the air waves. I'm talking chaotic, fast, poetic, emotional hardcore. And Alone records did it just as good as anybody else.

I picked this up for $3.99 (obviously) at a record store in Philly. Not sure which one though. Probably Repo or something.

The Assistant contribute 1 track to this release. A little over 5 minutes long, but a great screamo track. The Scarlet Letter add a few more. These are more fast hardcore than anything, but are still great.

This was released on black vinyl and on clear vinyl. I am unsure of how many were pressed of each. Also released with a bunch of inserts.

Of course this release is in my collection because of the wrestling cover. Antiseen blast out another great southern punk song. Which includes some lyrics by the country singer Jerry Reed. The Hellstomper song isn't really my cup of tea. But I included it on here because it is a part of the release.

This was released on white vinyl, which I own, and also on clear vinyl, which I want. There may be other pressings of this, but I am unaware of them.

I don't care what anybody says, I love Atom and His Package. His brand of fun melody driven electronic pop punk has got my 2 thumbs up. I have most of his albums, and I'm working on the 7 inchers

I bought a huge lot of CD's (150 of them suckers) off of the Knock Knock pop punk board a few years ago and it had this in it. Along with 2 other Atom and His Package CD's. This is the second release. It also features a song by Fracture (really good). I have no idea how to put this into a genre. Electro-melodic-pop-punk??

Anyways, I love this CD and I hope you do too. Everybody pretty much knows who this guy is, so I'll spare the regular crap about a history, discography..ect....Also, the reason I'm not going to put the other albums of his I have on here, is because they are easily available on either the labels page, or on interpunk. This seems OOP.

Anti-Wasteoids were a youth crew hardcore band from around the Thurmont, MD area. This is their second album. Their first will be featured on this blog eventually.

Before this was released, the Anti-Wasteoids were a 3 piece with Mike on vocals. On this release they are a 4 piece with Evan on vocals and make on guitar. Counterpoint records was their own label out of Littlestown, PA.

If I remember correctly, 1000 of these were pressed.

I got to go to a lot of local shows with these guys and it was always a ton of fun. Decent dudes who loved playing music. The band has since changed their name to Mindset and I'm not sure if there is any original members (maybe Evan?).

Another little fun fact, I was around to do gang vocals on this album. It was a lot of fun and pretty cool to get my name in the liner notes. I also added all artwork in the zip. file.

For some reason my scanner decides it's not going to friggen work this weekend. I wanted to post my usual front and back covers, and the CD as well. But everybody will have to live with a stolen picture from interpunk.com

A while back I saw a ska-punk band called No on 15 in Mechanicsburg PA. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have picked up some of their other releases. But I am a comp junkie and I had to have this. I'm pretty sure it was really cheap. This also introduced me to Fonzie and Jettison. Also, I'm sure everybody who reads this knows, Smackin Isaiah is essentially A Wilhelm Scream

It was released in 2002 on Jumpstart Records. Catalog # JST-037. Its been out of print for a little while now, and seems to be somewhat difficult to get a hold of. Jumpstart Records is still around producing some great punk and easycore.

I just recently picked up this LP on my annual trip to Philadelphia for CZW Cage of Death. I believe I bought this from Repo Records, and for only $3.99. I was pleasently surprised when I drop the needle on this record. I was expecting a more polished power pop sound, as was the case with Wind Up. However this has a harsher more pop punk sound to it.

This seems pretty hard to find, but not impossible. I'm not sure how many were pressed but It seems it was only pressed on gray marble. The zip file contains scans of the inserts, as well as all 3 tracks!

I headed up to Megatronix in York PA this weekend. Its this old barn that was turned into a junk/eletronic/adult video store. I guess they ran out of room for their vintage porno VHS so all CDs were only 1 cent each. Yea pretty crazy. So after going through all the CDs they had, I came out with 19. Most of them I just grabbed because it sounded somewhat punk or power pop. That or the artwork intrigued me. And for 1 cent, who cares?

OK I admit, I cheated on this one a little. I didn't feel like taking pictures of my LP so I just stole a picture offline of it.

I picked this up at Repo Records in Philadelphia about 2 years back. Tt was $4.99 and I wasn't sure whether I really wanted it or not. But seeing as AYA, Houseboy, and Oblivion were on it I had to take the gamble.

This is the third LP in the series and unfortunately this is the only one I have. Only pressed on black vinyl as far as I'm aware and comes with a booklet. Check out the Houseboy song. Probably one of my favorite pop punk songs.

A good mix of punk rock and pop punk. Seems to be difficult to find as well.

Wow, over a month since my last update. I've had a few people ask if this blog is still active. Why, yes it is! My summer months are mostly spent outside, so during those nice days updates are few and far between, Well, fall is here and that means colder weather. I love hoodie weather, but I'll be inside more. I picked this up when I was playing in a band called "Handguns". We played with Fireworks and The Wonder Years several times. I picked this up at a show we played in NC. It was free. Duh. Released in 2009 and contains the Run For Cover roster at that time. Released in a cardboard slipcase.

Whoever said Verizon Wireless internet was a good idea, is a liar. The worst part of that whole ordeal is that I live in the middle of bum fuck Egypt and it's about the only thing we can get. Blame that in your lack of updates. This took almost 4 hours to upload!

Released in 2005 on EEYAHH! Records!!! I'm guessing this was a sampler as it was released in a cardboard slipcase with 2 songs each from 3 bands. Not sure how many were pressed. And I'll be honest, I hate the artwork. It's terrible. But I'm glad I picked this up (don't remember where). It's pop punk / emo that was popular a few years ago. Surprisingly not bad! I believe Dynamite 8 is still around. I couldn't find anything else on the other 2 bands.

Some of you might be wondering where in the hell I have gone. The answer is simple. Nowhere. I have tried uploading this album a couple of times and it seems to take forever. Almost 3 hours! Maybe my internet just sucks. Fuck it.

I got this release about a year ago when I purchased a large CD lot (about 150 CD's) off of the Knock Knock Records pop punk board. It was mostly pop punk and I was hesitant to give this a listen.

And for some reason, I found it really good. In an odd "I have to listen to this while driving RT 15 at night" sorta way. Its mostly indie / electronic stuff. Is there a term to describe this type of music? Probably. I just havent figured it out yet.

Released on Teenbeat Records in 2003. The catalog # is 341. It's a little different than most of my other entries, but I hope you give it a listen.

But the lyrics are more serious, and the song writing is better. So check it out!

I'm back everybody! My music collection is almost organized, and I have a ton of music to add to the blog. I will do my best to update this a few times a week. But with a new house comes plenty of new responsibilities. Like mowing, and cleaning and all that crap. I honestly forgot what releases I have posted on this blog since it started. So I may start deleting old post and starting over. Unless there is a big outcry (check the Budget - Eepee entry) then I will keep it.

I first heard about 5 Cent Deposit on an old comp called "A Tribute To Your Mom" and thought it was pretty good. So I searched out their releases. I ended up buying this from a guy online for $5. Not bad considering its pretty hard to find in the original pressing form.

Here is what the boys from 5 Cent Deposit had to say about this release:
This was our first release that we put out ourselves. We pretty much went into the studio and recorded every single song that we had at the time. This was a very educational experience recording in a "real" studio for the first time. I think we really learned a lot from the sessions of recording this album, especially the horrors of trying to do 24 songs! We let go of our original bass player during the recording of this record, and along with our engineer Mike (who would soon become our bassists for a short lived time), we all platooned to finish up the bass tracks. There are fond memories from this recording session. Ah the joys of being young and musically ignorant....."yeah sure, that part sounds fine, next!"

V/A - Going Nowhere Fast CD

Here it is! The comp responsible for getting me into one of my favorite bands "Lanemeyer". And Also my first taste and 90's style pop punk. It also house one of my top 5 favorite songs (Easy Target - Stickin' Around).

About 10 years ago, I was in a barn show in Westminster MD with Say Anything (not the wimpy emo band), Innerside Burning (hxc), Element 101, Hangnail and The Undecided. As I was browsing the merch table, I notice 2 compilations. This one, and Happy Christmas volume 2 on BEC recordings. I wasnt sure about this comp, so I bought happy christmas because BEC and Tooth & Nail were putting out some awesome pop punk at the time. The x-mas comp had only 1 good song on it (MxPx - Christmas Day). So I was a bit bummed out. Wishing I would have bought the Going Nowhere Fast compilation just for the MxPx and Element 101 songs.

About a month or so later, Element 101 was playing in Gettysburg PA at a place called The Bombshelter. I saw this comp there (for around $5 I think) so of course I bought it. And so begins my obsession with rare pop punk compilations.

After a few years of listening to this CD non stop, I lost it. I was heartbroken. I feared I would never see this comp again. And it took almost another 3 years of searching high and low before a copy popped up on eBay. I put in a $50 bid right away. I was not going to let this go! I ended up getting it for around $4 or something. And since I bought this (probably in 2002 or 2003) I have yet to see another copy for sale.

OK, enough about me. This was released on Destined To Fail Recordings in 1999. They were out of WA. After years and years of searching, I still have yet to uncover any other information on this label, or some of the bands on it. So download it, and enjoy. Because you will probably never see it again.

The New Found Glory track is an unreleased demo version. Listen to how young they sound!

Projectile Disfunction were a fast punk band out of Hanover PA. Hanover used to have such a great punk rock scene. I remember going to shows at Crash's Deli, The Go Point and many basement shows. Seems as though most of it just died off. Which is a shame.

This is a CD demo that was sold for around $1 at their shows. They also released a CD titled "Shut Up and Play". Which you probably could contact them (they have a myspace) and they would sell you a copy. I saw them a few times at the Hanover Library. Another place I miss.

Fast old school style punk rock with some thrash influences.

Triple Bypass are a New York pop punk band. They also released an album (which was Whoa Oh's first release) titled "yeah, yeah, yeah. punk rock, big deal". Also produced by Dirt Bike Adam (from Dirt Bike Annie). Includes a fun cover of Earth Angel.

Although some people say this is often underrated, I disagree. Underrated, no, overlooked, yes. If you like this, head over to Interpunk quick and this 7" is on sale for $2!

I'm going to be flat up honest with all my fellow blogger enthusiasts, I have little to no information about this release, if it was released! So I apologize.

The Mad Caddies are a ska-punk band that released a few albums on fat wreck chords. You probably already knew that if you ever heard one of this Fat Wreck compilations. Back before they were called The Mad Caddies, their band was called The Ivy League. BUT due to possible legal issues with other bands of that name, they decided that the Mad Caddies was a more suitable and unique name.

They recorded a bunch of tracks as The Ivy League. And it came to be known as the Pre-Green Tape. So here ya go!!

I've been wanting to update this blog for a few days now. Here's to procrastination! I got into this band after a compilation appearance on one of those old Springman Records comps. Realizing how good they were, I found this 7" for 50 cents at Double Decker Records (noticing a trend here?).

This is not the same "wonder years" that is circling the hardcore pop punk rounds these days! This band is a more melodic slower pop punk band but very very good. They also released a full length which I sold a few months ago and I'm kicking myself for it!

I already posted Down By Law's first full length and it seems a few people really enjoyed it. Unfortunately I have to skip a few releases as I do not own them yet. This is their fifth full length and it seems it doesn't let up on the energy and emotion.

What a weekend! On Friday I took the day off of work and headed up to New Jersey to see The Gaslight Anthem. Of course I had to stop at Double Decker Records in Allentown for about 30 minutes on the way. Gaslight was amazing! I can't wait to hear their new material.

I would put this in the pop punk category. But also in the melodic punk category. Imagine if Good Riddance grew up listening to old Blink 182. There ya go!

Wow, 2 updates in 2 days! I'm on a roll now. This is what boredom and 3 inches of snow will do to a person. Enough about my pathetic uneventful life, on to the music!

The Stump Wizards were a little punk band that had somewhat of a following around the Harrisburg PA area. They were from Camp Hill PA to be exact. They were around for a couple of years. I believe 1989-1993. This could be wrong. They also released 3 other 7" as far as I know, and an LP titled Smokestack which was released on CD, LP, and cassette. As far as compilation appearances go, they were on Self Mutilation Volume 3 (Hippy Knight Records 1993), and Set it on Fire (a tribute to the scientists)

This little 7" release was picked up at Repo Records on my first annual trip to South Street in Philadelphia. for 99 cents it wasn't a bad pick up. 2 songs total, like a normal 45 from the time. “Too Young To Die” takes on an almost bluesy flavor while the flip ventures into heavy mid-tempo funk. Side A was also originally done by Sonny Boy Williamson. You can still pick up this release at Get Hip Recordings for $3.99. So if you like it, go buy it!

And its about girls! So why not download it?

Seriously, this has to be one of the best punk bands to come out in the last 20 years. I don't care what anybody says. I fucking love this band.

Composed of Dave Smalley (Dag Nasty, DYS, All) and former members of the chemical people. I'm sure everybody has heard at least a few of their songs on Punk-O-Rama comps and G-Kart Records comps. They are still around but don't seem to put out much new material.

This is an amazing punk album with lots of melody and emotion. I will post more Down By Law albums in the future.

Another one of this blind ventures where I find a punk looking CD for really cheap (99 cents in this case) and decide to give it a shot. I'm not much into oi! or streetpunk, but this album is pretty catchy. Most of the songs are your typical "fast punk songs about drinking" type of fare. But there are some decent songs in the mix that make the album worth downloading.

The Cuffs were from New Jersey were formed in 1996. Their first release was a 7" titled "Get Out Of My Way". Around 1997, they played a few shows in the Lancaster and York PA areas.

In early 1998, another 7" titled "Death By The Bottle" was released on Headache Records.

Bottoms up was The Cuffs first full length release. And to kick off their CD release party, they played with punk legends Rancid. The cuffs also released 1 more 7" and called in quits in 2001.

I also used MP3's instead of WMA on this release. And most likely I will continue to do this.

Magrudergrind - Religious Baffle 3" Demo CDr

Magrudergrind comes out of Bethesda Maryland and has been around a few years. Playing as a three piece, without a bass player, this band combines brutal grindcore with straight up thrash and fastcore. Who says 3 piece bands suck?

This CD was given away free before Religious Baffle was released. With only 2 songs, and a very limited print run (I've heard anywhere from 17-25 copies) not many Magrudergrind fans are familiar with this CDr. Check it out. And if you ever get a chance to see these guys live, they are amazing.

It seems these blog entries are getting farther and farther apart. Thats ok, I still have a never ending supply of great music for the masses to hear.

A few years ago (probably like 8 or so) I was at a punk show in Mechanicsburg at a community center. For the life of me I cannot seem to remember the name! Anywho, there was a band from CT that had a HUGE box of CD's for sale at $2 a pop. I ended up pulling out this CD, and A Tribute To Your Mom (which I'll post in this blog eventually). He didnt have any change for my $10, so I ended up buying these for $1 a piece. Rare OOP compilations always make me smile. This compilation started my search for the elusive Drunk in Public full length (which I posted in this blog earlier). Its a great comp with some unreleased songs.

Fearless Records was a great label until they started releasing those horrible "punk goes....whatever is trendy this week" cover compilations.

A few years ago I was hanging out with my friend April at CI Records in Lancaster. I browsed through their over priced vinyl and found nothing. I took a look through their budget CD's and found this for $4.98. I knew Racer Ten from those "Check This Out!" comps on One Foot Records. So I decided to give it a try. They were a band from Canada and played an early 90's power pop style. This CD isnt too hard to find, and can be had off of ebay and amazon for about $1. They appeared on a ton of comps, and also released another full length of Triple Threat Records which is still available.

Arcade Academy was the brainchild of Mike Doyle (formally of Lanemeyer). And since I am terrible at writing biographies, here is what their website says..

Arcade Academy is the brainchild of ex-Lanemeyer frontman/ex-fat kid, Mike Doyle. Upon his glorious return to NJ from his exile in California (after Lanemeyer's demise) he recorded 3 demo songs and got down to the business of putting together a new band. After some lineup changes, a seemingly endless parade of guitar players and an accordion section that never really panned out - the current lineup was solidified. Steve Jaworski of LWL and Jettison fame sings back up, plays guitar and does some crazy kung fu style leg kicks. Sean Bergin formerly of Day at the Fair and September Sky (whatever happened to those guys?) tries (poorly) to play the bass and write lame band bios. Dan Ryan, a part time Ben Gibbard impersonator and our resident ladies' man, hits the skins and consumes wine coolers like they're going out of style. We've got some shows in the not too distant future as well as some new whore- inspired songs that Doyle swears are the best shit he's ever written. I tend to believe him, so thanks to the whore for the inspiration! We hope you like what you hear.

Here is the Boris the Sprinkler 7" I promised on Monday, but of course never delivered. I believe I bought this at Celebrated Summer Records in Towson MD. Although my memory of this release is sketchy at best. Most likely I only paid a few bucks for it. I don't get the joke, but it's a really good 2 song 7".

I have the red vinyl version (as seen in the pictures). There is also a clear vinyl version that seems to be harder to find.

Record excursion weekend in Philly

I will be posting another Boris the Sprinkler 7" later on today. But until then, here is some stuff I found in Philly this weekend.

First off I saw 2 of the best shows I've seen in some time. Saturday at the troc in Philly I saw None More Black, 7 Seconds and of course the Bouncing Souls. None more black was pretty good. Although I had higher expectations for them. 7 Seconds was amazing. I havent seen them and I've always been a huge fan. Still great to see Kevin Seconds tearing it up at his age. Of course the bouncing souls were amazing as always.

Sunday I saw Tim Barry, Lifetime and the Bouncing Souls. This was the first time I had heard Tim Barry. I thought he did a great set. I will be picking up his releases in the future for sure. Lifetime just blew me away. And they played Young, Loud and Scotty, and Northbound Breakdown so I'm a happy camper. The souls put on the best set I have ever seen. TONS of energy and they played all my favorites. My god what a great weekend.

Before I go into detail, a band member of The Bad Boys http://chairshotrecords.blogspot.com/2009/03/bad-boys-love-black-olives-45rpm.html left a comment on one of my blogs! Here is what he had to say. Thank you for leaving a comment and leaving some information about your band!!:
"Charlie Daniels was the energetic force, the bassist and producer of both sides of this recording. The drummer was Danny Conway, the vocalist and keyboardist was Gary St.Clair and I, Demetri Callas, was the guitarist. The songs were recorded at Sambo studio, Louisville, KY, in '66. The instruments played (for those who may care to know) were a 1951 Fender Precision bass, a Lowery organ, and a 1953 Fender Esquire guitar plugged into a Fender Bassman 'Piggy-back' amp head. Charlie connected a cable from the speaker output on the Fender amp directly to a channel in the studio mixing console. No fuzztone devices were used; the guitar distortion/overload was a natural occurrence.
The bass solo on 'Black Olives' may be the only bass solo ever recorded by Charlie Daniels. The 'Olives' recording was to be the 'B' side of the disc. It took approximately ten minutes to record it. Charlie said 'play a riff......any riff', and we did.
Danny Conway took his life in '87. Gary St.Clair is still active in the music biz....produced a smash hit in the '90s ('I Swear' /All4One)....has his own indie label (Dynatone Records) and a first class recording studio in CA. Charlie Daniels attained the stardom he so rightfully deserved after having devoted many years of his life helping others advance their musical careers.
I, Demetri Callas, still play occasionally and communicate with Gary and Charlie whenever possible.
The Bad Boys changed their name to Flavor and recorded for Columbia Records in the '60s. Gary St.Clair recorded a remarkable, self-titled solo album in 1970 (ABC Paramount label). The album features Gary's inimitable vocal ability.
In 2007, Sony Records procured the master recordings created by Flavor for Columbia Records (1968-1969). Sony issued a CD entitled 'Flavor'...Sally Had A Party'. The CD is available on eBay and from various other sources. It, too, features Gary St.Clair's soulful singing."

Pictures Can Tell were a 4 piece band from...well I don't know. I had gotten this album (more of an EP) from a huge indie lot of CD's I purchased off of ebay a few years back. Lots of tracking this band down has come up fruitless. Unfortunately I don't have any other information about this band.

5 tracks if indie music that is good for a rainy day. Some of the songs drag on much more than what I like (some almost 7 minutes), but it makes a good driving CD.

V/A - What'd You Expect For Free? Volume 8 CD

Skratch Magazine has been around for ages. 12 years to be exact. The unfortunate part about that is, not many people have heard of this wonderful punk mag. They would also issue quarterly CD compilations and give them out for free. Hence the name of the comp! I also believe they are working on their 50th CD comp.

Although the magazine has gone mostly digital (along with the comps), its still a good read. I am also looking for all of their CD comps for my collection. This is the only one I have!

About 7 years ago, there was a venue in Hanover PA called The Go Point. Which was in the basement of the Moose. I saw The Commercials there and they were selling this CD for $3. Yea I didn't think they should have been selling it, but I'm a comp guy. And for 39 bands that's still pretty cheap. I tried peeling the price sticker off and well what you see is what you get. 39 songs of hardcore, ska, emo and pop punk. A lot of unsigned bands I would love to hear more about. If you have any info on the bands from this comp (except goldfinger, link 80, luckie strike, the commercials) let me know.

I bought this a while back at Double Decker Records in Allentown for I think $1. I was surprised to see an early BTS 7" in the dollar bin. So I had to pick it up. If you are into punk rock, or pop punk I'm sure you know who these guys are. I think the a-side is a great catchy pop punk tune. B-side is your typical BTS. Which isnt a bad thing. Here is another little ditty of the non punk persuasion from my personal collection. I bought this in a box lot at an auction a few years ago. I wasn't that much of a fan of the a-side track on the first listen. The b-side track is what drew me into this single. Its catchy and very upbeat for a song from 1962. The A-side reached #8 on the US billboard charts. Here is some more info from wikipedia...

Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans was an early 1960s vocal group produced by Phil Spector, and was initially conceived as a vehicle for the lead vocals of Bobby Sheen, who took the stage name Bob B. Soxx. The Blue Jeans were backing vocalists, Darlene Love and Fanita James, both of whom were also members of the then girl group The Blossoms.^[1]

Despite Sheen's status as group leader, by the time the trio entered the recording studio, Spector was often using Love as the group's primary vocalist. Sheen sang lead on the group's first hit, 1962's "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" (originally from the 1946 Disney movie, Song of the South). Love, meanwhile, handled the lead vocals on Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans' two follow-up singles, 1963's "Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?" and "Not Too Young to Get Married".^[1]

Sheen and Love shared vocal duties on the only album the group ever recorded, Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah (1963).

Sheen can be heard as lead vocalist on the group's final recordings, "The Bells of St. Mary's" and "Here Comes Santa Claus," two tracks on the Spector-produced album, A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector (1963), on which Love also appears as a solo artist. On the cover of this album, a group portrait shows Sheen with two Blue Jeans vocalists, who have been identified as James and yet another Blossoms member, Gloria Jones.

After 1963 the group was dropped by Philles Records and effectively ceased to exist. Sheen went back to using his real name, recorded some tracks for Capitol Records in the mid 1960s, and later joined a later touring version of The Coasters.^[1] Sheen had previously been a member of The Robins, joining in 1957. Love recorded a few solo hits, but, more memorably, was the lead vocalist on at least two hit records by The Crystals. It is also established that Sheen, Love and Wright were the voices on The Crystals' hit, "He's a Rebel".

I bought this off ebay in a huge ass 7" pop punk lot (you have already seen some of what I bought). This is a pretty good mix of pop punk, and punk rock. I would say this is a rootbeer style color vinyl, but others have called it clear brown.

660 were pressed and the b-side labels were hand numbered. Mine is # 603/660. They released a few other things, and appeared on a ton of pop punk comps.

Bakamono is a music store / anime store in Denver, CO. They released this comp and pressed1000 copies. It was given away for free. And I had to pay for it.

Its a great mixture of pop punk, hardcore and some ska. So check it out!!

A lot of my entries seem to come from City Lights Records out of State College PA. Well here is another one. At the time I remember hearing about this band being on Mutant Pop. So when I saw it for $2.99, I had to pick it up.

If you don't like female lead singers, you might want to pass on this. Personally I think some women are a lot better than the men singing. The beautys are a 3 piece band that have released a ton of splits and a few full lengths. This release has a great pop punk song (sweetheart sweetheart) and the other 3 are old school style pissed off punk. The last song being an instrumental. It seems pretty hard to find so download it and enjoy!

Discount was a band that had a pretty big following on the underground punk scene from 1995 until 2000. They released a ton of 7", a few full lengths and they appeared on countless compilations. They also were on quite a few 7" splits as well. This will not be the only Discount release that is featured in this blog. I am a huge Discount fan and I have a lot of 7"'s and a few splits. Allison (the lead singer) went on to be in The Kills

I picked this album up at the champs punk rock flea market for $3. Which is super cheap. It is the second in the series of singles collections. The first one is still available. This release seems to be harder to find for some odd reason.

I am terrible at describing music. So I will just copy and paste what it says in the insert about this band. BUT FIRST I will give a little back story on how and why I acquired this release. On my yearly trip to philly for CZW's cage of death, I always stop by the philly record exchange. They always have a decent selection of super cheap punk 7". I grabbed this for 25 cents because it had a wrestling cover. And since I collect records with wrestling covers, it was right up my alley. If you didnt know, the wrestlers are Superstar Billy graham and Dusty Rhodes. And I happened to pick up the white vinyl version. Mine is hand numbered 41/200. I still cant find the black vinyl version.

OK here is what the sheet says " a one man electro-industrial horror show. This gruesome release features a fast driving cover version of Black Sabbath's "Warning" + 3 others. Add samples from "The Love Boat", public access TV & someones toilet+ drum machines, tape loops & creepy distorted vocals, and this one can't be missed"

I am not a fan of the music, but it's pretty rare plus it has a wrestling cover. Download it and yell at me if you'd like.

Have you ever bought a CD off of eBay and had the seller say it was complete, only for them to ship you the CD? The first time I bought this comp that is what happened. Bastards. This was on my want list for some time. Mainly because Lanemeyer was on it. I paid around $5 for it if I remember correctly. It seems to be difficult to find, but I don't understand why. It has a lot of bigger bands on it and was released on Go-Kart Records. Best songs are from Boris the Sprinkler, Grey Area, Lanemeyer, Funsize, Discount. 27 tracks on the first CD, and 26 on the second. A lot of pop punk but also some ska and hardcore.

PRESSING INFO: I would have though a few thousand were pressed, much like the Punk Uprisings comps. But I guess not. Released on Go-Kart Records and Black Rat Recordings.

Boxingwater comes from Around Boston MA. I think the town is called Tewksbury. I tried finding something else out about this band, but I really couldnt. They also have a split 7" release with Death by Nostalgia which I will post eventually. Its some pretty good punk rock with a lot some poppyness thrown in some of the songs.

If you havent heard this band, go buy their album now. Its some great newer style pop punk. But not the Ramones style pop punk that gets stale after a while. Its super catchy and a lot of fun. I saw this release at the Championship when it first came out. I heard them on myspace before so I picked it up. I got the yellow vinyl version. I'm still looking for the clear blue vinyl! Also, I looked everywhere and could not find a picture of the clear blue version.

OK I'm off track here. Broadway calls just signed to Sideonedummy Records so check them out when they are in your town! I only included the first track off Side A, and the first track of side B, Because this is still available from the band.

I picked this release up at repo records in Philadelphia this past December. It was originally priced $7.99 but I ended up getting it in the $3 bin. It has a good mix of punk and hardcore and even a ska song thrown in for good measure. If you have the original CD, you can put it into your computer and it has a saves the day video and other pictures.

If you want the original, it should be easy to find on Amazon or Ebay. But first, check your local record store!

Lanemeyer was a staple in the New Jersey pop punk scene during its heyday in the late 90's. And they are one of my all time favorite bands. Number 3 behind Green Day and The Presidents.

I bought this off of ebay a few years ago when I heard "figure it out" on a comp (said comp will be posted in this blog!). They were on a lot of comps, and issued a 7", an EP and various demo tapes. This was their second release and their only full length besides the restrospective CD. I have some unreleased stuff that Ill post sometime. I stole this info from Wikipedia...

"Lanemeyer was formed in 1997. Taking their name from John Cusack's character (Lane Meyer) in the film Better Off Dead..., Lanemeyer were known for their humor and love of comedy. They broke up in 2001 after touring with bands such as The Lawrence Arms, Bigwig, River City High, Whippersnapper, and many more. After the breakup, several members continued to perform with other bands, such as The Forever Endeavor and Day At The Fair (Rushmore Records). Lanemeyer has reunited several times to play single shows, with varying member lineups."

Also, Brian from The Gaslight Anthem was the lead singer of Lanemeyer after Chris Barker left along with Mike Doyle.

I wish I knew something about this release. I've done everything but call the number thats listed on the label. I even wrote a letter but never got a response. I bought this in a box lot a few years ago at Norm's Auction. Most of the records were sold on eBay. But after taking a listen to this I decided to add it to my collection.

All I know is that this release was base out of Ardsley PA. So its a somewhat local release. The A-side is slower power pop ballad. The B-side is why I kept this release. Its upbeat and catchy! Reminds me of a more poppy dead milkmen. Or maybe I'm just crazy.

No, this is not the same impressions that released a slew of crappy releases in the 50's through the 70's. This is a thrash band. A lot of the wording is in another language so I dont know much else about this release. It has some thrash parts, but the music is mostly fast punk rock.

The cover was made out of a cardboard popcorn box. So I'm sure there are a a ton of variations of this out there. It is numbered on the inside. Mines is #427 so I'm assuming that around 500 were pressed.

Back about a year ago I was flipping through the $1 CD's at The Championship when I noticed this one. I knew Craigs Brother was on Takeover Records, and this sorta looked like a pop punk kinda release, so I said what the hell. For $1 what do I have to lose. Except $1 of course. The first time I listened to it I remember not liking it. I don't know why. I listened to it a second time about 3 weeks ago and thought it was some really good power pop/ pop punk! Funny how things work out. They are still around and they were on Warped Tour a few times with Yellowcard. This is one of their early releases. It seems to be pretty easy to find.

They also have a music video for the song "Lost and Found World". I was going to post it here, but its not on this release. So if you want to see it, it is on youtube.

I picked this up at City Lights Records in State College PA a few years ago. I had never heard this bands music, but read that they were one of the fathers of the emo genre. I think I paid something around 2 or 3 bucks for it. I thought it was a decent record, although not something I would get to crazy about. They were a staple in the DC emo scene between 1993-1998. They also released a few other 7"s and a few LP's as well. Later on they started to get better and chruned out some great post-hardcore stuff.

You probably can find this release at a record store or ebay for under $5. I recomend picking it up.

I would like to apologize about the lack of updates this past week. But I'm sure not many people actually look forward to my blog. Since my truck decided it was going to drop the starter, that seemed a little more of a priority. Here is another one of those comps that I would cross my fingers and hope I made a good purchase. I saw this on ebay one day while looking for shower with goats stuff. I believe it was about 3 or 4 bucks. I saw that it had Slappy (a band im dieing to find more about) and buglite (underrated pop punk band) and I decided I couldnt pass it up. There was a lot of bands on here I had never heard of before. Its got a solid mix of pop punk and ska punk bands. The great thing about this comp is that its a benefit release. It benefits Kooties research. Ahhhh I love 1990's pop punk.

There isn't that many people who know that a punk sound was brewing in the mid 60's. But there was. Unfortunately, a lot of these 45's are impossible to find. Some only 1 or 2 copies are known to exist! I hope to add some of these to my collection, and when I do they will be seen here!

And according to the research I have done on this band, They were from Frederick Maryland!

While there are much more punk sounding songs from the 60's, this is one of the easier ones to find. You can probably pick it up around 15-20 bucks off ebay. Maybe a little less if you find it in a record store. The A-side is some good fast 60's style garage punk while the b-side is a nice catchy fuzz guitar instrumental track. Charlie Daniels helped arrange this record. Long before the devil went down to Georgia. Luckily for me, my copy came with a rare Paula paper sleeve.

Which is really expensive for a comp! Its a pretty good mix of pop punk, melodic punk and plain ole punk. I posted the first comp in the "check this out" series in this blog as well.

You know Smackin' Isaiah. Don't lie to me! There is a pop punk forum that every now and then have some great and rare stuff for sale. The guy who ran Tank Records posted that he had a bunch of old label and distro stuff left over for sale. I bought this and a bunch of comps off the guy. I had heard Isaiah on an old Jumpstart Records comp I purchased at the Go Point in Hanover PA. Good Times

ANYWAYS Smackin' Isaiah ended up changing their name to A Whilhem Scream. And they still kick ass. This release is some wicked fast technical melodic punk rock. Its probably one of my favorite releases in my CD collection.

Andy's Yellow Alligator - Gets Phat N' Stoopid 7"

Who here has been to Double Decker Records in Allentown PA? If you haven't your missing out majorly! That is without a doubt my favorite record store. They have a 50 cent room which I have gotten a TON of rare and awesome pop punk 7"s from. Here is one of them!

Andy's Yellow Alligator (better known as AYA) was a pop punk band out of Illinois. Well (like all these bands do) they broke up and Chris formed Showoff while drummer Tony Tintari went on to play in Shai Hulud (as well as on Rise Against's original demo).

The group recorded a demo tape in their basement called "Pastor of Muppets" a play on Metallica's Master of Puppets. AYA also appeared on the Underdog Records compilation LP "Achtung Drei" with a song called "12 Hour Julie." They also released a few split 7" records which will appear on the blog eventually! They played with bands such as Mr T. Experience, Slapstick, and Tuesday

The lead singer Chris also was momentarily in Fall Out Boy.

I picked this up at Double Decker Records last time I was there for $3.49. Its 2 songs and the B-side is a live version. I also uploaded their 7" "Dear Abby" a while back that you can download.

I am back once again for some more melodic pop punk! A few years ago I picked up a huge pop punk lot off of ebay. The only reason I bought it was because there was a lanemeyer CD in there I didn't have. I ended up winning 40 some CDs for around $6. Not too bad! Most of it was unknown and self released stuff. A lot of which went into my person collection and will eventually been seen in this blog.
OK OK back to Scallywagon. I think this band is from Kentucky. But I am not sure. Fast melodic pop punk similar to what was coming out of NJ back in the day. I love it, and you might to!

Now back to the blog. Here is one of the many pieces to my rare pop punk collection. This blog was mainly started to showcase hard to find and unknown pop punk bands. But it has grown to include all kinds of great music! I was doing a search on pop punk bands on interpunk one day and came across this release. I think it was $6. People compared it to new found glory and slick shoes. And since I love both those bands, I picked this up. And it did not disappoint. To me it sounds like a melodic cross between Blink 182 and slick shoes. If you like the old style pop punk that was released on tooth & nail records, and Drive thru back in the day, you will dig this!

The band also had 2 other releases that I know of before this one. 1.2 Brand New Demo, and Montezuma's Revenge Demo. Both of which I can't find anywhere.

Well here I am. I am back with the punk and hardcore entries. I picked the red vinyl version of this up at CI Records in Lancaster a few years back. I didn't know who it was, but at the time I was trying to complete the Slap A Ham Records discography. I ended up paying $5 for this. For a few years, I only thought it was released on red vinyl. Well its like a clear orange to be exact. I was Celebrated Summer in Towson MD one day and found a copy on black vinyl. Which I didnt even know existed. That was only $5 so I picked that up.

ACS is made up for Chris and Lydia Dodge, and a drummer. Chris Dodge was one of the singers of Spazz. His wife hated powerviolence, but still sang on this release. Its different I will say. Its powerviolence with just a bass, drums and sometimes keyboards. There are also some very weird instrumental tracks as well.

PRESSING INFO: Not sure how many were pressed. I have confirmed a clear orange vinyl, and a black vinyl release. The clear orange version is supposed to be harder to find. But I've seen it more often than the black vinyl version. I have also read that there is a clear swirl vinyl. But I have yet to confirm this.

Here is an underground release which should be a classic! And infact it might be. I just can't find anything about it. The a-side is an upbeat funk track which is pretty good. But the reason I posted this is because of the B-side! Its funky style soul with some pretty great lyrics. All you need to know is "fuck everybody". Give it a listen! And I promise to have more punk and hardcore coming up. This stuff is just too good to pass up though

Here is another not so punk entry. I love me some oldies, and it shows in my record collection. I love punk and hardcore. But I also love other music as well. This time you dont have to download it! Just hit play and listen.

Here is some doo wop released way back in the 60's. 1963 to be precise. The a-side is upbeat doo wop, and the b-side has a little bit of early soul in the mix. Puddin N Tain was reached #43 on the Billboard charts in 1963. Not a huge hit, but still a small one. Listen!

PRESSING INFO: Released in 1963 on Philles Records. I'm pretty sure this is the only label variation.
