? and the Mysterians - 96 Tears/Midnight Hour (Cameo 1966)

Above is the original and very hard to find pa go go version.

This is a 45 from Great Britian

Here is one of the stock copies of this garage great

So if your a garage punk enthusiasts you probably know ? and the mysterians. Even if you dont make the rounds, this was I think a #1 hit back in 1966. Considered by many to help bring garage punk into the mainstream. They also have a bunch of other 45's and a few albums but I will only focus on this one. Since it is probably their best single.

PRESSING INFO: Although I have no idea how many were pressed I am going to give you a rundown of all the different known versions of this. The Pa-Go-Go label released it first in 1965. And it is very hard to find. Then cameo record picked this single up. THe first version has an early fade on the a-side and the LP version of the b-side. Trail off wax markings are c 428 R and c 428 BR. Composer of both songs is listed as Rudy Martinez. The second version contains LP version of the a-side and alternate version of the b-side. The b-side has different vocals and words. The trail off markings are C 428 A-1A and C 428 B-1B. The third version has an early fade out of the a-side, and LP version of the b-side. Composer listed as "The Mysterians". Trail off numbers are C 428 AR and c 428 BR. The fourth version has the label credits as "? AND the mysterians", contains an early fade on the a-side, and LP version of the b-side. There is also a knockout center version of the 45 from Great britian. The Collectibles label re-released this in 1997 and contains the new versions the group did. I have also seen some labels that say 1960, 1963, and 1966. Below is the third version of the release.
